Distracted Driving

The world is at our fingertips. Everywhere you go you have access to your friends, entertainment, GPS, online banking, games, the list goes on and on. All you have to do is unlock your phone and you get instant gratification. Not only is it not safe but text messaging and phone usage while driving has been banned in many states, and rightfully so. Click here to see your state laws.

When you leave your phone in the cup holder its hard to ignore the text messages and notifications. Here are some tips to help keep your attention on the road for your safety and the safety of the people around you.

1. Go hands free and keep your hands on the wheel. Headsets are a very affordable option and a lot of cars come with integrated speakerphones now. Its worth the investment if you are someone who makes a lot of phone calls in the car. (Click here for the "10 Best Bluetooth Headsets")

2. Put it on silent and somewhere unreachable before you put your car in drive. If you don't know about the text message or can't get to it chances are you won't be distracted. Click here for five apps to prevent texting and driving.

3. Have a designated texter. If its really important have your passenger text back for you, otherwise it can wait. Texting takes your hands, eyes, and focus off of driving. You may think you are in control but a recent stundy reported that drivers are twenty-three times more likely to be in an automobile crash when texting. Click here for more texting and driving statistics.

Even though its hard we all need to implement the "just say no" attitude. Say yes to safety and no to meaningless distractions. They can wait.

Extend the Life of Your Vehicle

Buying a car is a big investment. That's why we have auto insurance for the big things to keep us covered. What about that nail on the road that just destroyed your tire? What about that rock the truck in front of you kicked up and cracked your windshield? Your navigation system stopped working? Forgot to budget in all those oil changes and scheduled maintenance?

Whatever you need, there is a warranty out there for you. Extended warranties are an affordable way to cover unforeseen expenses.

Platinum Vehicle Protection:
You could be the best driver in the world but guess what, the world isn't perfect. The Platinum Vehicle Protection program from Power Protect bundles Tire & Wheel Protection, Dent & Ding Protection, and Windshield Repair Protection. Nails, rocks, even shopping carts will no longer break the bank.

 A few key highlights:
  • No deductible - zero out-of-pocket cost for you at time of claim
  • No limit on number of occurrences or mileage
  • Covers damage caused by road hazards like glass, metal, potholes, debris, nails or blows outs.
  • Front windshield repair of chips and cracks caused by rocks and other road debris
  • Removes door dings and minor dents without harming your vehicle's factory finish
These things happen out of the blue and can add up. Be sure you are protected from the unexpected!
Vehicle Service Contract:
Power Protect has three available plans for comprehensive protection. Powertrain, Gold, and Platinum:

I didn't realize you could buy coverage for your audio and navigation. Did you?! Plus amazing benefits like 24-hour roadside assistance, towing, rental car reimbursement, trip interruption coverage, and transferable coverage. Transferable coverage may add to your car value if you decide to sell your vehicle.

GAP Insurance:
GAP can be purchased on new and used vehicles. If you owe more than your car is worth you are upside down. Roughly half of people who finance their vehicle are upside down (source/more information). If your car is totaled your insurance company will only pay what the car is worth so GAP steps in and pays the difference between what you owe and what the car is worth.  Say you owe $25,000 for your car and your insurance determines the value to be  $21,500, GAP pays the bank the $3,500 so you don't have to. You'll barely notice the difference in your monthly payment but if you don't get it you will be hurting when the bank starts looking for their money.

Pre-Paid Maintenance:
Pre-Paid Maintenance is exactly what it sounds like. You pay upfront so that for the lifetime of your plan you don't have to worry about paying for your scheduled oil and oil filter changes. When you buy this plan you're essentially rolling the cost of your oil changes into your monthly car payment.

If you purchase all these plans when you finance your vehicle, you would be set up to have very few out-of-pocket expenses besides your your monthly payment. If you have any question give us a call at 940-243-6200.

Hyundai Sonata Open Campaigns

Hyundai makes every effort to create perfect vehicles every time. When they fall short it is Hyundai's desire to make it right. Below are two open campaigns for Hyundai Sonatas. If your car is affected by these campaigns please call us and we will work with your schedule to repair your vehicle as soon as possible.

Applicable Vehicles: 2011-2014 Sonata 2.0L and 2.4L (excluding Hybrid) with automatic transaxles.
This open safety campaign involves the automatic transaxle shift lever. The cable that connects the transmission range selector switch to the vehicle's shift lever pin may become disconnected, which could keep your vehicle from being able to go into the park position, preventing the vehicle from being started.

Applicable Vehicles: 2011 Sonata (YF) vehicles manufactured on December 11, 2009 through September 1, 2010.
This open safety campaign involves the brake tubes that may develop a leak over time. If the brake tubes leak sufficient brake fluid, the brake warning lamp in the instrument cluster will illuminate and longer stopping distance will be required, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Do not be alarmed, the brake warning lamp will illuminate before the condition is serious.

Repairing these conditions comes at no cost to you! The replacement part and labor is covered by Hyundai's commitment to quality and safety for the life of your car. Please make an appointment online at www.EckertHyundai.com or by phone at 940-243-6233.

Time to Accessorize

When you think about accessorizing your ride you probably think about huge rims and a flashy paint job. Accessorizing your vehicle doesn't have to be that intense, let's think smaller and more functional.
Tint:
Have you ever stepped into a car after its been in the sun all day long in the Texas summer heat with no tint? It's not a great experience. The steering wheel burns your hands and you can barely breathe. Tint can help protect against the summer heat. It also helps with privacy and protecting your interior.

Wiper Blades:
Wiper blades are not the most exciting accessory but they are essential. The summer sun and winter ice can really take a toll on your wiper blades. You don't want to get caught in a storm and not be able to see so be sure to get your wiper blades checked regularly.

DVD/GPS:
Most people have a GPS app on their phone these days but it can be dangerous looking down on your phone while driving. Also, a lot of cities are passing laws against phone usage while driving which means no more phone apps. It may be time to consider having your dealership install a aftermarket system. DVD players are a great addition for backseat entertainment. Kids will lose track of time and your family will be at the destination before you know it.

Organization:
A lot of people look like they live out of their cars with the stuff they keep in there. It's understandable in this "on-the-go" world we live in. Car organization can keep your car neat and tidy even with all your essentials in it. Click here to see what accessories Hyundai has for your car.
Ideas:
-Cargo Organizer (here's a great one!)
-Backseat Organizers (here)
-Backseat Organizer with tray (here)
-Seat Organizer (here)

With summer car trips happening it's time to get prepared and get organized. If you get our coupons mailed to you its time to check your mail! This month there was a coupon for 10% off Hyundai Genuine Accessories.

What to know before walking into the finance office at a dealership!

Financing a new car or a "new to you" car can be an exciting but scary process. You want to get the best deal and who can blame you? You just need to do your homework first and be prepared when you go in, that way when you leave you are happy and not scratching your head asking yourself what happened.

1. Ask yourself how much you can afford to spend a month. Really do the numbers! When you are making a commitment this big you don't want to get in over you head. Lets say you can afford $300 a month and a $1500 down payment.

2. Ask yourself, how long you want to be making payments for. If the car is older you might not want to be paying for it for 4 years if its not going to last that long. If you are planning on having kids in a year or two and would need to switch cars maybe a 24 month term is right for you? Maybe its a brand new car and will fit your needs for years to come, then you could go longer. Figure out what is right for you. Lets say you want to be done in 48 months.

3. Search online and talk to a few people to figure out a estimated loan rate for you. Not to high, not too low. Something that you can base your numbers on and feel confident. Most people know about what their credit should be and usually have a good idea about what rate they can get. Lets say you average a 5% loan rate.

4. Lets do the math! Use an auto loan calculator and work backwards to calculate your purchase price to see what you can afford (click here for a calculator). Put in your numbers and it will spit out a price. In our example our purchase price would be $14,526.88. Now when you walk in you know not to even look at anything higher than a sticker price of $15,000 and hope to negotiate down some.

5. Now it's time to get financing. The finance department can usually get really competitive rates, they do this all day everyday and know the right people to talk to. You've already done your research so you know about what rate to expect.

Lastly as a side note, when buying a new car you will typically hear something called a rebate. A rebate is just extra money you save if you buy a car the dealership has extra of. Sometime they will even offer 0% financing on cars they have a lot of stock on. Typically its one or the other. Do the math, you might assume 0% will save you more money but sometimes its best to take the rebate.

Think through all your options and go in confident. If you ever have questions give us a call and we would be glad to help you. 940-243-6200.

Lastly, the 2012 Car of The Year, the Elantra Sedan is the perfect car for everyone. Its spacious enough to load it up and be comfortable while not compromising on gas mileage.

Safety:
Safety is key when picking out a new car. The Elantra Sedan doesn't mess around when it comes to this subject. This sedan offers 6 airbags, a driver's blind spot mirror and technologies designed to enhance traction, cornering and braking. This Hyundai earned a 5-Star overall safety rating in 2013 from the U.S. government, and a Top Safety Pick+ honor from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Performance:
This Hyundai Sedan gets 145-hp while the Elantra Sport gets an amazing 173-hp. The Sport will meet your need for speed. Maybe great gas mileage is your number one? Try the Hyundai Sedan SE with its 38 mpg highway. You can change the Elantra GT to one of three steering modes: comfort, Normal, or Sport. You can have it the way you want it.

Technology:
Are you a tech savvy person? Fill your need for technology with optional features like the beautiful seven inch touch screen with navigation and rear view camera, the proximity key with push-button start and of course Bluelink. Bluelink can coach you on your driving habits, give you turn-by-turn navigation, you can set a perimeter and know if your car has left it, you can even know if your car is out past a certain time. Tires: The Soul of Your Vehicle

Tires are the only thing standing in between your car and the road. Your car can be in perfect condition but if your tires are not it will hurt your fuel economy, handling, braking, and overall safety of your vehicle. Its important to know the details of your tires. When picking tires there are three simple things our service manager says to look for:

1. Temperature - You should always buy tires with a temperature grade of A. The temperature grade show a tires resistance to heat as well as its ability to dissipate heat. The letter grade C is just meeting the standard and when we're talking about an investment this significant to the life of your car its important to find tires with an A grade.

2. Traction - Traction is graded by AA, A, B, and C. Traction grades refer to the ability to stop on wet pavement. When buying tires look for a traction grade of AA or A. Grades B and C do meet the standards but you will notice a difference with your traction.

3. Treadwear - When looking at treadwear a 400 treadwear versus a 200 treadwear will last twice as long. When buying tires look for at least a 400 treadwear if you are looking for tires for everyday use. Lower tread is used for sport cars, they are quieter and can go faster but wear out fast. The higher the number the louder they will be but also the longer they will last. Treadwear numbers should only be compared within a specific brand. One brand may give Tire X a 400 but another might give Tire X a 350. This doesn't mean the tire is any different the two brands just rate differently.

Spring is a big time for buying new tires because winter road conditions wear them out. If you are in the market for new tires give our service department a call 940-243-6233. Right now there are rebates on Goodyear, Dunlop, Yokohama, and Kumho. Click the links for details to get a great deal on new tires!

30,000 Mile Service and Why It's Important

It is a pretty well known fact in the car world that every 30k miles your car needs a serious check up. It's something we know we need but do we know why?  Do you know what you're getting at your 30K service?

At Eckert Hyundai's Service department their premium 30,000 or 60,000 mile service includes a lot. Here's the list:
  • Full Service Oil Change
  • Fuel Additive
  • Oil Additive
  • Battery Service
  • Fluid Check and Fill
  • Tire Pressure Check and Adjustment
  • Tire Rotation and Balance
  • Coolant Service
  • Brake Flush
  • Transmission Flush
  • Evaporative Filter
  • Cabin Air Filter
  • Air Filter
  • Multi-Point Vehicle Inspection
  • Free use of a loan car with appointment
3 reasons why you should get your 30k service done:

1. As a Hyundai owner did you know that Hyundai can cancel your warranty for not keeping up with your maintenance? For example if you don't keep up with your oil changes and then you have engine problems and need it replaced Hyundai might not cover it. This means that you are hurting your car and your wallet. (Hyundai Warranty)

2. By having these services done you will extend the life and value of your car. Over time you will have less problems and your car will last longer. Plus, when you go to sell or trade in your car one day you will get more for a car that had regular maintenance done.

3. You save money by getting them all done at once. If you were to individually have each of these things done it would cost you $660.00 but by getting them all done at the same time it only costs $585.00. We also have a $50 off major vehicle service coupon below which means you would save $125!

Click here to schedule your appointment or call our service department at 940-243-6233.

2014 Hyundai Veloster Review

The Hyundai Veloster  is a car like no other you have seen before. It has won style awards such as the "2012 Ten Coolest Cars Under $18,000" by Kelly Blue Book, a 2012 "Good Design" award, and the "Auto Style Award" by ecityofstyle.com. The Veloster is a car that will make you do a double take, in a good way. It has more than looks going for it! In 2012 it also won "Car of the Year" and "Best Economy Car." Lets just say the Veloster has a lot to be proud of.

Safety:
When it comes to safety the Veloster doesn't lack. It comes with six airbags and a front Occupant Classification System that knows to adjust the deployment of the airbag based on the size of the passenger. Its Vehicle Stability Management system, coordinated Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System, plus the Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Brake-force Distribution with Brake Assist create an integrated active safety system to help you avoid accidents. So buckle up, and the Veloster will help you with the rest.

Performance:
When it comes to performance you get some options. The Velsoter's 1.6L GDI engine will blow you away. Its strong yet efficient! It gets up to 138 horespower and delivers up to an EPA-estimated 36 MPG Highway. Have a need for speed? The Turbo uses a twin-scroll turbo to give it 201 horespoer and best-in-class power-to-weight ratio and still gets an amazing EPA-estimated 33 MPG Highway.

Four Maintenance Mistakes to Avoid

Ever had someone tell you it is better to fix something before there's a problem rather than after? We know the truth but sometimes we forget, or maybe we just don't want to pay the bill and hope everything turns out fine. Skipping regular vehicle maintenance can be a costly mistake. Take a look at these four mistakes to avoid.

1. Not changing oil on time. Every vehicle comes with a owner's manual that will tell you exactly when you need to change your oil. Have you looked in yours? If you don't change your oil it will get dirty and turn to sludge. You need your oil to be lubricating properly to keep the moving parts of your engine working!

 2. Not checking tire pressure. Losing air in your tires is natural. Even though losing the air is natural that doesn't mean its a good thing. Low tire pressure will compromise your vehicles fuel economy, cause wear and tear on your tires, and impact your steering. The solution is simple. Check your tire pressure regularly and keep them at the proper levels.

3. Not changing the fuel and air filters. Filters may seem insignificant. They are easy to skip over and say, "I'll change them next time." When they get clogged it can be a costly fix. Clogged air filters can also cause your check engine light to go on. When ignored the problem can escalate causing other things to start failing.

4. Neglecting fluids. Check your owners manual. It will tell you exactly how often to change your fluids to keep your car in good condition. Checking your fluids is typically something anyone can do and is relatively inexpensive, especially in comparison to the cost you will pay for not changing them.

The big thing is to remember your owners manual and keep on top of your scheduled maintenance. This should limit the big issues in  your cars future and keep costs down. Need to make an service appointment? Call 940-243-6233.
